Artiste Ice-Cream

Handcrafting a sustainable packaging system for a new brand of handcrafted ice-cream.

Moving away from the bandwagon of commercial ice-cream produced in concrete labyrinths, Artiste is a brand of handcrafted premium ice-cream made in small batches with precision and passion. Made with natural sugars like jaggery, honey and fresh cow’s milk the ice-creams are a healthy balance of wholesome ingredients catering to a refined palate. Just like an artist’s fine creation, their flavors transcend the boundaries of what you know to be possible. They appointed us to create a packaging experience that reflected the same philosophy.

As a small batch ice-cream brand startup with ever changing and new flavors launched every month, we had to create a packaging system that kept the number of SKUs minimum. Instead of designing for individual flavors, we designed the distinct brand philosophy of hand-crafted fine creative expressions.

We treated the packaging as an artist’s blank canvas where the art could keep changing. What remained constant was the branding, with space designed for putting individual color coded flavor stickers.

To keep the handcrafted story authentic, much like the brand, we created hand crafted art using the linoleum print technique that was made popular by Picasso. We created three pack designs, each made to look like a piece of art and an object of desire.

Together they created streams of art when stacked together in retail and also a great experience to explore once received at home. We extended the handcrafted expression to create a distinct visual language for the brand that is used in the brands communication across all the mediums.

The packaging and the brand has seen a huge success. Started from one ice cream shop in Gurgaon, Artiste ice-creams exclusive shops are now available in 5 cities and at various supermarkets in Gurgaon & New Delhi.
